Breaking News: Fort Clatsop destroyed
As Reported by The Daily Astorian
WARRENTON — Fort Clatsop was a gutted shell today after a mystery blaze
destroyed the West Coast landmark during the night.
North Coast firefighters worked for hours to try to save the replica
fort, but early reports were that more than half of the structure – if
not more – was completely engulfed by the fire.
The fire is believed to have started about 10:45 p.m. Monday night.
A fire investigation team is expected to be on scene Tuesday morning to
probe the cause of the blaze. Senior fire officials at the scene in the
early hours of Tuesday told The Daily Astorian they did not know what
caused the fire.
